Kit 4R+: Integrating a 4th CNG Tank for Street Sweeping Machines

LIMITED RANGE FOR CNG STREET SWEEPERS

The City of Paris encountered challenges ensuring sufficient range with its CNG-powered street sweepers to cover all cleaning routes.

In the tipper truck configuration, the Iveco Eurocargo vehicles are equipped with six tanks along the chassis. However, in the street sweeper configuration, the available space is limited by equipment, allowing for only three tanks installed directly behind the cab.

This reduction in storage capacity, combined with the high fuel consumption of sweepers and their hydraulic systems, significantly limits the vehicle’s autonomy.

THE 4R+ KIT: CRMT'S SOLUTION TO BOOST RANGE

To address this need, CRMT developed an innovative, approved solution: the 4R+ Kit. Designed by our in-house engineering team, the kit increases the range of CNG sweepers. By adding 22 kg of additional CNG, it allows vehicles to carry 25% more fuel through the integration of a fourth tank.

To accommodate an additional tank identical to the existing three, our teams designed a new storage rack placed in the same location behind the cab. The gas line was adapted accordingly. 

Most of the components used are sourced from IVECO, enabling the operator to retain access to the manufacturer's after-sales service and maintenance. The modifications were approved by IVECO.

AN APPROVED KIT READY FOR DEPLOYMENT

Thanks to this turnkey standard kit, operators can plan longer cleaning routes without worrying about range limitations, thus optimizing productivity and efficiency. The City of Paris successfully operated its sweeper equipped with the kit during the Olympic Games—a particularly demanding period. Pleased with the extended range, the city continues to operate the vehicle.

Building on this positive feedback and the prototype approval, CRMT is ready to support large-scale deployment.
